Game Reviews (Assignment)

The most effective educational game I played so far in the games gallery would have to be "In 2 the world" which is a game about traveling in a ship to earth while trying to avoid other planets. If you die however you get neat facts about the solar system. I would put this as a action game since it is fast paced and challenging but not as a platformer. The game looks good, it give a clear and simple purpose to fulfill but at the same time isn't as easy as it seems. Only through trial and error can you beat it. This game makes me want to Learn how to code objects like the planets to interact with the playable character in both positive and negative effects. Also I would like to learn to learn how to figure out how the planets change speeds, and how they do it.

Next however is the game I think is the least educational. "Heresy" is a fun game don't get me wrong, however it doesn't teach any kind of values or lesson, other than the fact its bad to be shot. Its a simple action game where you go through the level trying to survive and press the buttons and get to the exit. Action games can be good for learning purposes proven by the game above. The game looks like it was someone baby, that they put quite a bit of time into it and it looks great. It is probably the most enjoyable game on here, however it doesn't really serve its general purpose of education. If he wanted to he could add some educational values, but he would have to majorly change the layout of the game to do so. Though i would love to know how he does a lot of the stuff in the game, such as the the moving ramps that you have to jump on, and also the commands to attack and move which have to have their own animation and script.

My Epic game history.

Lets see here...my history with video games. Man if I were to list them all it would take quite a long time. Lets cut it down to games that I have played that I enjoyed the most in a count down sort of manner. Number 10 would have to be "The Outfit" which was a early Xbox 360 game, its mix of both shooter and strategy gameplay made it a worthy game to brag about. Number 9 would have to be the Dynasty warrior series which entertained me throughout my early gaming career. Number 8 would have to be the Call of Duty series which was a great appeal at first but soon was annoying, and my friends had left therefore it wasn't worth my time. Number 7 would have to be "Overlord" yet another Xbox 360 game that let you be "The bad guy" and take over the known world with your little minions. Number 6 is "The Odyssey" which is my all time favorite game from Square Enix (The makers of the Final Fantasy series.) Number 5 would be the first Gears of War game which basically changed the way I looked at 3rd person shooters. Number 4 is World of Warcraft which I both love, and hate at the same time due to the level of commitment you have give in order to be good at the game. Number 3 Would have to be Fallout 3 which I enjoyed for at least several days of constant game play. Number 2 is without a doubt Morrowind the third game in the Elder scrolls series which basically the reason I love sandbox style games so much. Number 1 with no doubt would be The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, which to this day I still play when I get the urge. I have done I believe absolutely everything in that game from leveling to making building out of paint brushes.

The First Step

Hmm I'm gonna keep this short. Lets see.. The game I would want to make the most would have to be a large sandbox type of game play where the gamer is never tied to some ridiculous storyline but makes his own land and decisions, which then sets off a series of both positive and negative reactions. In doing so it would create a baseline for a worthwhile experience. Though as of now with my incredibly limited talent and knowledge of the gaming industry I am simply shooting for a more of a rpg style game using the information I learn from Globaloria this semester. However I will reach my goal, and I will create a game someday where thousands if not millions will love.
